Bio

Matthew Middleton is Associate Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, and a doctoral candidate in music at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Matthew has performed throughout the United States and United Kingdom; at Bristol, Chichester, Lincoln, Norwich, St. David’s, and Worcester Cathedrals in the UK; at the National Cathedral, National Shrine, Loyola University Chicago, The Princeton Festival 2013, and elsewhere in the U.S.; and as organ or piano soloist with the symphony orchestras of Indiana University, Gonzaga University, Cameron University, and Missoula, Montana.

His recordings have aired on KUT Austin, WUOL Louisville, WWFM Trenton, and on the nationally-syndicated public radio show, With Heart and Voice. He can be heard weekly in broadcasts of cathedral services on WICR Indianapolis.

Previously, Matthew worked as the assistant organist at Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, as the organ scholar at Bristol Cathedral and St Mary Redcliffe Church in England, and as a music teacher in Cairo, Egypt and Bethlehem, Palestine.

He holds degrees from Indiana University (MM), Boston University (MM, Music Ed.), the University of Texas at Austin (BM), and the AAGO diploma. He studied organ repertoire with Janette Fishell and Frank Speller, and organ improvisation with Bruce Neswick and Jeffrey Smith. His doctoral dissertation is on choral accompaniment at the organ.
